Don’t Put Your Life In The Bin
Shooting Creatives have collaborated with Manchester Local Care Organisation to bring you a short film titled ‘Don’t Put Your Life in the Bin’ which aims to raise awareness of the importance of the bowel cancer screening programme.
This film has been co developed in response to low bowel cancer screening uptake, specifically in the Black African and Caribbean male population.
Shooting Creatives have previously produced short films to highlight health and social challenges and used their cultural knowledge and media production skills to capture this film set across various sites in Withington, Old Moat and Manchester.
This film follows the narrative of a man who receives his bowel cancer screening kits and puts it in the bin, the film takes him on a journey, exploring the emotional strain of catching bowel cancer too soon, which encourages him to reconsider his actions and take his screening kit out of the bin to do the test.
Bowel cancer screening is a free test you do at home that checks for signs of bowel cancer, often before symptoms appear.
If you’re aged 50 to 74 and registered with a GP, you’ll automatically get a bowel cancer screening home test kit through the post every 2 years. Depending on when you turned 50, you will be sent your first test at the age of either 50, 52 or 54. If you’re aged 75 or over, you can call the bowel cancer screening helpline on 0800 707 6060 every 2 years to ask for the test.
