Supporting Our Community: The Cheetham and Crumpsall Anti-Poverty Group
Launched two years ago, the Cheetham and Crumpsall Anti-Poverty Group was born out of a vital question: How can we work together better to support residents experiencing difficulties related to the cost-of-living crisis?
Our mission is to streamline access to anti-poverty provision and ensure no neighbor has to face financial hardship alone.
Our Key Activities
We focus on proactive support to resolve issues before they reach a crisis point:
-
Local Promotion: Raising awareness of community activities and support groups.
-
Early Intervention: Referring residents to services that offer advice and practical solutions.
-
Energy Savings: Helping households reduce their energy bills through practical guidance and items.
The Impact in Numbers
In just two years, our partnership has grown into a powerful network of support:
| Stat | Achievement |
| Partners | 15+ Community organisations and charities |
| Events | 9 Large-scale community events held |
| Attendance | Over 2,000 local residents engaged |
| Referrals | 5,000+ into advice, youth, and health services |
| Direct Aid | £1,000s provided in vouchers and essential support |
We are proudly supported by the Council’s Neighbourhoods team, health development coordinators, and the Manchester Climate Change Agency.
What to Expect at Our Events
We strive to create a “Warm Welcome” for everyone. Our events are hosted in local community spaces and designed for the whole family to enjoy. Every attendee can access:
-
Hot Meals: A full hot meal and healthy snacks for all.
-
Family Fun: Free craft sessions, play activities, and children’s books.
-
Essential Gifts: Prizes including winter warm packs and energy-saving items for the home.
-
Community Resources: Clothes swap shops and up-to-date information on local support.
Learning and Growing
Through hundreds of conversations, we have gained deep insights into how the cost of living impacts our neighbors. This feedback is already changing the landscape of local care—improving how vaccine rollouts and anti-poverty work are targeted to better serve Cheetham and Crumpsall.
Looking to the Future: 2026 & 2027
As we look toward the coming years, our goal is to expand our family fun events and refine our funding strategies to ensure support reaches those who need it most, exactly when they need it.
