AAA screening at Manchester City a huge hit
On Saturday 28 February, our AAA Screening Team delivered a hugely successful screening event, providing more than 260 men with vital checks for this potentially deadly condition.
Men across Manchester joined us on Saturday 28 February for a special free Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm (AAA) screening event, hosted at Manchester City FC’s Etihad Campus, and it was a huge success!
The event was open to local men aged 64 to 66 who hadn’t previously been screened. On the day, the team screened over 260 men and found 3 aneurysms, which is a fantastic achievement that reflects the incredible effort that went into making the event a reality. Attendees were also offered a range of additional health tests, creating a really valuable full MOT experience.
For anyone not familiar, AAA is a serious condition that develops when the main blood vessel in the abdomen becomes weakened. It often has no symptoms, meaning many men don’t realise they have it until it becomes dangerous. The screening itself is simple and painless, and detecting AAA early can significantly reduce the risk of life‑threatening complications.
None of this would have been possible without the tireless dedication of our AAA Screening Team (pictured below), who worked incredibly hard behind the scenes to plan, organise and deliver the event. From coordinating logistics to inviting a wide range of health services to join us on the day, their commitment and attention to detail ensured everything ran smoothly and that every attendee received the very best experience.
A huge thank you to our amazing AAA Screening Team, along with colleagues from partner services, for making this event possible. They received a heartfelt thank‑you from Naseer Ahmad, consultant vascular surgeon from the Greater Manchester and East Cheshire Aneurysm Screening Programme, who was extremely impressed by everyone’s professionalism and passion for the cause.
