Acute Children’s Treatment Service shortlisted in HSJ Patient Safety Awards
We are delighted to announce that the LCO’s Manchester Acute Children’s Treatment (ACT) service is a finalist in the prestigious HSJ Patient Safety Awards 2025 in two categories:
- ‘Improving Care for Children and Young People Initiative of the Year’
- ‘Community Care Initiative of the Year’
Launched in Sept 2023 the ACP-led service takes a holistic approach to helping children and families avoid hospital attendances where its safe to do so by providing:
- Same day 30-minute appointments
- Enhanced health literacy education and safety netting
- Social prescribing – for example food banks and energy
- Links to other appropriate healthcare services
- Increased support for children with medical complexities
The service receives referrals from NHS 111, Northwest Ambulance Service, GPs, Children’s Community Health services and local emergency departments has proved incredibly successful with high levels of patient and family satisfaction. It’s a great example of how we’re moving care away from the hospital and into the community.
The awards will take place in September and the next step for the team is presenting to the judges in the coming weeks!
Well done from everyone across the LCOs to our ACPs Alice Musgrove, Alisa Jewitt, Nazia Akhtar and the wider team involved in the service.
