Disability Supported Accommodation Service

Disability Supported Accommodation Service

The Disability Supported Accommodation Service is a citywide service that provides support to adults aged 18 and over who have Learning Disabilities, Autism, Physical Disabilities and Acquired Brain Injuries with an assessed need for support.

There are office bases for the service: North (Heathfield Day Centre in Newton Heath), South (Hall Lane Resource Centre in Baguley) and Central (Ross Place in Ardwick).

The service delivers high-quality person-centred care with a focus on maximising independence for the citizens it supports. The service supports citizens to reach their full potential and attain their aspirations and goals.

Specialisms/services

  • Caring for adults over 65 yrs
  • Caring for adults under 65 yrs
  • Dementia
  • Learning disabilities
  • Physical disabilities
  • Sensory impairments

All services are registered with the Care Quality Commission and receive regular inspections. The three areas are currently rated as “Good”.

Each citizen has their own tenancy or licence agreement with staff on-site to provide care and support. There are 39 locations across Manchester and each of them is different. There are houses in which 3 or 4 people will live together sharing communal spaces, such as the lounge and kitchen, and there are also larger builds with independent apartments.

The staff teams are made up of specifically recruited team members who have received a comprehensive induction and training programme. This includes moving and handling, safe medication handling and administration, autism awareness, epilepsy awareness, emergency first aid, infection control, Positive Behavioural Support and safeguarding vulnerable adults.

All staff have completed or are currently undertaking their Care Certificate with an aim to continue with Levels 2 & 3 in Health and Social Care.

Referrals need to come from a social work team following an assessment of need and a funding agreement. Citizens are encouraged to set their own goals and targets for increasing independence, achieving their wishes and aspirations for participation in community activities and celebrations.

The service operates 24 hours a day 365 days a year. Office hours for management 9:00am – 4:30pm with an on-call and duty service outside of office hours including bank holidays, weekends and evenings.
