Greater Manchester NHS 70 and Windrush 70 Health Walk and Fair – Saturday 23 June, 12 noon till 5pm
MLCO is delighted to be supporting a special NHS and social care family festival and health walk in Alexandra Park on Saturday 23 June. It marks the 70th anniversaries of both the NHS and the arrival of the SS Empire Windrush carrying passengers from the Caribbean to the UK on 22 June 1948.
The Windrush 70 Anniversary celebrates the pioneering Windrush generation. Their legacy has helped to shape British social, cultural and political life; and the diversity we see today in our health and social care workforce.
The event has been organised by the Caribbean and African Health Network (CAHN), supported by NHS and other public sector partners across the city. On the day there will be an organised health walk through the park as well as a festival with entertainment, music, stalls, food, historical displays, health promotion stands and recruitment information.
The family event is open to everyone and runs from 12 noon to 5pm. You can register in advance for the health walk here – or you can register on the day. Please come along and support this fantastic event. The event also falls in British picnic week so it’s an ideal opportunity to prepare a picnic in the park for the day.
Alexandra Park is located just off Princess Parkway between Whalley Range and Moss Side – postcode M16 7JL. The festival and stalls will be located near the Russell Street entrance and the health walk will take in a two kilometre loop around the park – with a shorter route also available.
